Israel - UNCODED & UNASSIGNED ITEMS - o F/VF Franked with a 10 mil "Jerusalem II" and postmarked "May 14, 1948, Minhelet Ha'am Jerusalem", this cover appears to be completely innocent. Only the fact that the name "Yeshivat Hovevei Tora, Jerusalem" did not exist in Jerusalem made the cover intriguing. The underground organization Irgun used various institutions' envelopes (mostly religious) for sending its anti-British leaflets to local citizens and members thus reducing expenses and using a camouflage against the British. But when such genuine envelopes were not available, they would print names of non-existent institutions on blank covers, as in this example - a Yeshiva named "Hovevei Tora". Only a handful were ever produced and it is believed that maybe only one such cover may still exist. Unless that can be confirmed, this cover is thusly unique. This piece, while part of the award winning Fight for Freedom collection, is considered separate from the collection and stands alone as a rarity. Cover
